Company History and Evolution
Swedish Match traces its origins to the Swedish tobacco monopoly nationalized in 1915 under AB Svenska Tobaksmonopolet. In 1917, financier Ivar Kreuger founded Svenska Tändstickan AB, which changed its name to Swedish Match in 1980. During the 1990s, the company underwent several ownership and organizational changes, including being acquired by Procordia AB in 1992, which then adopted the Swedish Match name for the entire group.
